Are you worried about not being perfect? Or are you ready to face the fear of growth head-on?
Many of us think that taking zero action out of fear is going to protect us. In reality, holding ourselves back from showing up more frequently because we
Aren’t ready yet
Feel ashamed or embarrassed
Do not have everything completed yet
Things aren’t perfect
will actually keep you from the growth you need, both internally and on the business.
And these aren't true, this is just what your mind is tricking you into believing about marketing & showing up to grow your business. Don't let it!
I try to do the most challenging things and give myself as many learning opportunities as possible. You know, the “things that scare you” kind of approaches.
I just learned from the book, “The 4-Hour Workweek” that the things we actually think about trying to do, we don’t do out of fear. But, when you think about what you are really afraid of, it may not actually be that detrimental to your life after all.
So, for the worst case scenario of showing up on social media or starting your email + blog system, perhaps you feel afraid to annoy your contacts or embarrass yourself with a mistake.
The worst that can happen? A temporary feeling of self-image destruction, but that goes away pretty quickly, I’d say, in less than a week or so.
When you begin to practice having your marketing messages actually SEEN and deployed from your planning systems (even your own head), you get to improve from where you begin each and every time.
You will be IMPERFECT at times, almost more often than you think.
Let me be very clear: you will be VERY imperfect at times.
But, the more you train yourself to bounce-back from making mistakes, the healthier and less-stressed your marketing and your business will become, and you are giving yourself opportunities to grow.
I’ll give you a personal example of this weekend.
I made a huge mistake working for another photographer at an event on Friday night. I setup my cameras without the proper flash modifications, and the photos turned out more blurry/ less focused than I had hoped for.
I can’t tell you how hard on myself I’ve been over the last 24 hours, beating myself up for this and taking it so personally.
It actually made me quite sick, to be honest. But, this morning, I already feel much better and cooling off. I know that I will no longer feel anything about this soon enough, and I shouldn’t let it impact my health and wellbeing, rather, a healthy approach for learning and improvement.
Taking failure with grace and gratitude and as a chance for improvement will always allow you to become the better version of yourself.
This week, I want you to take on the most scary things: make the 100 phone calls, schedule a daily video, go LIVE on YouTube, launch your blog + email series, ask people to “like” your page, and personally reach out to all of the business cards in your desk with an ask or invitation to something you need.
It will be terrifying. But, the feeling of torture is completely temporary, and you will have a growing business and an improvement in yourself out of it for the long-run!
Take some deep breaths, know your value, and push “send” this week! I believe in you!
